SUMMARY:How to Host a Walking School Bus Training
DESCRIPTION:  \nA Walking School Bus is a safe and fun way for children to get physical activity as they travel to and from school with adult supervision. \n  \nStudies show that children who walk to school enjoy health benefits and academic advantages\, as well as getting more quality bonding time with parents. Plus\, walking to school gives children a sense of accomplishment\, independence\, and self-confidence. \nHowever\, today\, although 40% of San Francisco elementary school students live within walking distance of school\, only 27% of students actually walk. The Safe Routes to School Partnership is working to remove the barriers and change that. \nWalk San Francisco\, as part of the SF Safe Routes to School Program\, will be providing a workshop to show how easy it is to start and maintain a successful Walking School Bus at your school. \nA Walking School Bus is a fun way to get to school as a group! Children walk under adult supervision along a recommended route to school\, joining the walk at any point along the way. \n This FREE one hour workshop will cover: \n\nBenefits of a walking school bus at your school\nMaterials needed to host a Walking School Bus\nHow to conduct a walk audit\nHow to establish and maintain a successful Walking School Bus\nHow to determine an ideal location and route for a Walking School Bus\n\nAttendees will also receive a free Walking School Bus Toolkit that will include everything you need to start and maintain a successful Walking School Bus at your school. \nThe SF Safe Routes to School Program is here to help all schools and families start a walking school bus in your community. Taking this training is the first step! Join us on Saturday\, November 9th to get started on a fun and healthy commute! \nRefreshments will be provided. This training will be offered in Spanish and Chinese as well.

DESCRIPTION:The annual celebration will take place citywide May 10-14  \n  \nThe SF Safe Routes to School Partnership is excited to announce our annual SF Bike & Roll Week celebration\, May 10-14. Bike & Roll Week\, organized by the SF Bicycle Coalition\, is for students city-wide to celebrate getting around under your own power. Whether you’re on a bike\, scooter\, wheelchair\, or skateboard\, it’s healthy\, green\, and FUN. Walking counts too! \n  \nCheck out all the fun activities and prizes HERE! \n  \nThis year we have great activities for different age levels to participate remotely\, but in collaboration with friends and peers. For elementary school students\, the Five Senses Challenge connects getting out on wheels with exploring your neighborhood through your senses. Entire classes or Community Hub cohorts can participate\, or you can take part as an individual. For middle and high school students\, we’re creating a fun\, innovative app-based scavenger hunt game with our friends at Handstand that will get students out on their bikes and other wheels. And all ages can participate in our annual Bike & Roll Art Contest. Activities include awesome prizes from partners like Timbuk2\, Cleary Bikes\, Mike’s Bikes\, and more! \n  \nWhether you’re a student\, a parent or caregiver\, or a teacher\, check out and sign up for all of our offerings today. Resources in multiple languages coming soon. \n
