SUMMARY:Learn to Ride at Monroe Elementary Shared Schoolyard
DESCRIPTION:Link for tickets will be posted here when registration is live. \n  \nCome learn to ride a bike with YBike\, the Y of SF’s Bike Education Program! We provide bikes\, helmets\, and equipment – you just bring your game face and a little determination. We’re limiting this to 4 kids\, each accompanied by a parent/guardian for each session. Additional COVID safety precautions: •YBike instructors will provide hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes for all equipment and tools. •No youth will share bikes. •All bikes and equipment will be sanitized before and after the event using a disinfecting solution and/or sanitizing wipes. •All participants\, parents/guardians\, and instructors are required to wear a face mask for the duration of the program. SUMMARY:How to Host a Walking School Bus Training
DESCRIPTION:  \nA Walking School Bus is a safe and fun way for children to get physical activity as they travel to and from school with adult supervision. \n  \nStudies show that children who walk to school enjoy health benefits and academic advantages\, as well as getting more quality bonding time with parents. Plus\, walking to school gives children a sense of accomplishment\, independence\, and self-confidence. \nHowever\, today\, although 40% of San Francisco elementary school students live within walking distance of school\, only 27% of students actually walk. The Safe Routes to School Partnership is working to remove the barriers and change that. \nWalk San Francisco\, as part of the SF Safe Routes to School Program\, will be providing a workshop to show how easy it is to start and maintain a successful Walking School Bus at your school. \nA Walking School Bus is a fun way to get to school as a group! Children walk under adult supervision along a recommended route to school\, joining the walk at any point along the way. \n This FREE one hour workshop will cover: \n\nBenefits of a walking school bus at your school\nMaterials needed to host a Walking School Bus\nHow to conduct a walk audit\nHow to establish and maintain a successful Walking School Bus\nHow to determine an ideal location and route for a Walking School Bus\n\nAttendees will also receive a free Walking School Bus Toolkit that will include everything you need to start and maintain a successful Walking School Bus at your school. \nThe SF Safe Routes to School Program is here to help all schools and families start a walking school bus in your community. Taking this training is the first step! Join us on Saturday\, November 9th to get started on a fun and healthy commute! \nRefreshments will be provided. This training will be offered in Spanish and Chinese as well.

SUMMARY:Sunday Streets Tenderloin #2
DESCRIPTION:This fall\, Sunday Streets second Tenderloin event of the season provides open\, car-free streets for kids\, families\, seniors and residents\, celebrating one of the city’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods. Home to large apartment buildings and many SROs\, the area’s culturally diverse population includes a high percentage of families. \nNew this year\, the inaugural Getting There Together Celebration comes to Civic Center in conjunction with Sunday Streets. This party features and celebrates seniors and people with disabilities with an Interactive Resource Fair and an All Abilities Open Air Gymnasium with movement and wellness classes\, plus a Main Stage featuring performances by local seniors and people with disabilities \nIn a neighborhood with low car ownership that is often dominated by auto traffic\, Sunday Streets transforms roadways into accessible\, open space for the whole community. Walking or biking the route provides an intimate way of interacting with the area’s array of authentic and affordable restaurants\, unique architecture\, small businesses and nonprofit services. Pick up an Explore Local Guide for your key to all things local – grab a banh mi or bubble tea\, learn about the area’s history at the Tenderloin Museum\, or explore Larkin’s Street’s Tenderloin Community Garden. \nBesides providing safe\, open recreational space accessible to the district’s families\, youth and seniors\, Sunday Streets works with local residents\, businesses and nonprofits to create programming tailored to the unique needs of the district. \nFor info about Sunday Streets Tenderloin’s spring event\, click here.
